To understand the Port of Bellingham's desire to promote a Clean Ocean Marina is a positive step forward and about three steps back. When you consider the Port of Bellingham welcomed the Allegiant Air Group with open arms.
What’s a Clean Ocean Marina?
The Port of Bellingham is working with state, local and federal environmental
agencies and groups to create a new set of marina development guidelines, similar
to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating
System’s guidelines, that will demonstrate how to build a marina that enhances the
environment. The Port hopes the new Downtown Marina will become a model for
Clean Ocean Marinas throughout the country.
The introduction of Allegiant blows the carbon footprint right out of the water.
"Allegiant Air is a very favorable community asset and partner, providing reliable service to a growing number of destinations," said Port Commission President Doug Smith. "The Port is very pleased that Allegiant is basing two aircraft out of Bellingham and is adding new jobs to our economy." POB Link
Creating jobs for the rich who will benefit only a few sounds more like it especially when the corportate jet traffic increases as planned by the Port of Bellingham's Aviation director.
